Description :
Scholar’s Hearth — Domestic Study Ensemble & Literary Display This lot presents a cohesive study ensemble comprising a carved hardwood desk with six brass-handled drawers, a matching wooden chair with a contoured seat and decorative backrest, and two curated stacks of hardbound books arranged atop the desk surface. The volumes span foundational political texts, poetry collections, art theory, and spiritual writings. Prominently featured titles include The U.S. Constitution: A Reader, Longfellow’s Complete Poetical Works, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Theories of Modern Art, Western Heritage: A Reader, Concepts of Modern Art, and Dictionary of Art and Artists. One book arrangement is flanked by cast iron leaf-shaped bookends, contributing to the visual balance of the ensemble. The pieces collectively suggest an environment of disciplined reading and personal reflection. The ensemble evokes a domestic study setting where reading, writing, and contemplation converged in daily routine. The furniture reflects artisan manufacture suited for literary engagement, while the selected books indicate broad intellectual curiosity, ranging from classical American governance to artistic critique and poetic introspection. The presence of varied subject matter across volumes reinforces the scholarly nature of the workspace and its likely use as a private repository for learning and creative thought.
