Description :
Queen Anne Walnut Dining Chair with Vase Splat &
Cabriole Legs This Queen Anne style dining chair demonstrates the
refined proportions and craftsmanship characteristic of early to mid-18th
century American furniture design. The chair features a distinctive vase-shaped
splat back flanked by curved stiles that flow seamlessly into the rear legs,
creating the graceful continuous line that defines quality Queen Anne
construction. The front legs exhibit the classic cabriole form with their elegant
S-curves terminating in simple pad feet, while the rear legs maintain a
straight, raked profile for structural stability. The seat frame supports a
slip seat upholstered in neutral striped fabric that complements the warm
walnut finish. An H-stretcher configuration connects the legs at the base,
providing additional structural integrity. The chair displays traditional
mortise and tenon joinery throughout, with a dust cover secured beneath the
seat. The wood shows a rich grain pattern consistent with American walnut,
finished with a traditional shellac or similar period-appropriate treatment
that has developed a warm patina over time. Construction details include
properly fitted joints and period-correct proportions that suggest either
original 18th-century manufacture or high-quality later reproduction work. The Queen Anne style flourished in American
furniture making from approximately 1720-1760, though quality reproductions
continued to be made well into the 20th century. This style emphasized curved
lines and elegant proportions, departing from the earlier William and Mary
style's emphasis on straight lines and geometric forms. Materials: Walnut wood frame with
traditional joinery, upholstered slip seat in striped fabric, canvas dust cover Measurements: 15 1/2"W x 43"H
