Description :
Vintage Japanese Lacquer Bowl Set & Checkered
Ceramic Box Mid-Century This pair represents mid-20th century Asian export
craftsmanship designed for Western markets. The Japanese lacquered set features
a main container with fitted lid decorated with black branches and a white
crane, housing two smaller bowls with gold flower and golden butterfly motifs.
All pieces display the traditional red exterior with black interior lacquer
finish. The ceramic set presents a distinctive red and white gingham pattern
with green-framed oval medallions containing rose designs. The two-tier construction
offers organized storage compartments with cream-colored glazed interiors. Both
sets show authentic maker's marks - the lacquered pieces bear "Made in
Japan" stamps while the ceramic box displays blue underglaze characters.
These functional decorative pieces reflect the era when traditional Asian
techniques met Western aesthetic preferences, creating items that served both
practical and ornamental purposes in mid-century homes. Japanese lacquerware set and Asian ceramic box, circa
1950s-1970s, produced during the post-war export boom when Asian decorative
items gained popularity in Western markets. Materials: Lacquered wood with
traditional urushi finish, ceramic with underglaze painting Measurements: Square: 2 3/4"square x 2 3/4"H Round: 3 1/2" around x 2 1/2"H
