Description :

Early Canvasback Duck Decoy With Original Working Weight

This is a hand-carved wooden duck decoy modeled after a Canvasback drake, used traditionally in waterfowl hunting. The form, paintwork, and wear suggest it was an operational working decoy, likely from the early-to-mid 1900s. The hardware on the underside confirms it was used in field conditions, possibly in the Midwest or Northeastern U.S., where such decoys were common. Its age, construction, and utilitarian design reflect its original purpose rather than decorative use.

An early 20th-century working duck decoy depicting a Canvasback drake, carved from wood with a hollow body and painted in field-use colors. The surface exhibits clear age and use wear, with layered patina and fading indicative of long-term outdoor exposure. It retains its original keel weight on the underside, secured with old nails, further supporting its use in live decoy spreads. The slightly stylized form, especially in the curved neck and sloped bill, suggests it was made by a regional craftsman rather than factory-produced.

Circa 1920s–1940s, used in traditional North American waterfowl hunting.

Materials made of:
Carved wood, iron weight, old paint.

Measurements:

13 1/2" Beak to Tail  5 1/2"W
