Description :
Golden Gate Framed 1873 Steel
Engraving From Telegraph Hill View This is an original 1873 steel
engraving titled "Golden Gate (From Telegraph Hill)" published by D.
Appleton & Co. as registered with the Library of Congress. It depicts a
panoramic 19th-century view from Telegraph Hill in San Francisco looking out
toward the Golden Gate Strait before the bridge’s existence. Several ships are
visible in the bay, with figures in period dress observing from the hillside.
The engraving was made by E. P. Brandard based on a drawing by Jas. D. Smillie.
It is professionally matted and framed behind glass by Art Loft in Montclair
Village, Oakland. The piece retains historical and documentary significance as
a visual record of San Francisco’s topography during post-Gold Rush
development. Measurements: Picture itself: 9 3/4"W x 7 1/8"H Picture in Frame: 16"W x 13 3/4"H
