Description :

Vintage Gump’s of San Francisco, Exclusive Playing Cards

Gump’s is a luxury American home furnishings and home décor retailer, founded in 1861 in San Francisco, California.  In 1861, Solomon Gump, an immigrant from Heidelberg, opened a shop which specialized in gold picture frames and mirrors.  By the 1920s, our Union Square store was known for the very best of everything - a world renowned home for good taste.  The store was famous for its motto “where good taste costs no more”  and was beloved by generations of San Francisco families for luxury gifts and home décor.

Vintage Gumps's of San Francsico Exclusive Playing Cards
A rare and elegant set of playing cards created exclusively for Gump’s, San Francisco’s most prestigious luxury retailer. This exquisite dual-deck set remains in pristine, unopened condition with both decks still sealed in their original cellophane wrapping. Luxurious red presentation box with gold corners and traditional Chinese longevity symbol (Shou)
Two distinct back designs - one featuring an elegant Asian-inspired design with the Shou symbol, the other with a classic fish/koi motif made exclusively for Gump’s - not available through regular playing card retailers. Vintage, likely from Gump’s golden era (estimated 1960s-1980s)

Gump’s was founded in 1861 and became San Francisco’s premier destination for luxury goods, serving generations of discerning customers. The store was famous for its carefully curated selection of Asian art, jewelry, and home décor. These playing cards reflect Gump’s sophisticated aesthetic and their expertise in Asian design motifs. A magnificent piece of San Francisco retail history and a testament to Gump’s legendary attention to quality and design!
