Description :
Orpheum Theatre Pirates of Penzance Playbill Magazine Collector Step into the golden age of musical theatre with this rare collector’s playbill celebrating The Pirates of Penzance, presented by Joseph Papp
for the New York Shakespeare Festival. This authentic Playbill from the
Orpheum Theatre’s 1980s staging features a lively black-and-white illustrated
cover and a complete program honoring the full creative force behind the
production. The cast includes James Belushi, Patrick Cassidy, Clive
Revill, Paxton Whitehead, Jo Anne Worley, and Caroline
Peyton, with additional performances by Suzanne Bauring and Jerry
Scurlock. The operetta, based on the beloved work of Gilbert &
Sullivan, was conceived and directed by Wilford Leach, who also
served as co–stage manager alongside Bob Shaw. Musical adaptation was helmed by William Elliott, with
choreography by the celebrated Graciela Daniele. The visual and
technical artistry was shaped by Don Ketteler (set & mask design), Patricia
McGourty (costumes), and dual lighting designers Jennifer Tipton and
Vincent Fanuelle. This production was supported by the Public Theater,
with proceeds benefiting its broader mission—including Shakespeare in the
Park and the Mobile Theater—and was commemorated with an original
Broadway cast album released by Elektra Records. Accompanying the Playbill are vintage magazine pages that offer cast
interviews, behind-the-scenes insights, and period advertisements, providing a
vivid cultural snapshot of the operetta’s revival era. Light wear adds
character to this well-preserved set, making it a theatrical time capsule for
collectors, historians, and lovers of classic stagecraft. Shipping Available: See “Learn
