A Timeless Showcase of Global Stagecraft and Theater Rarities

This curated compilation of vintage theatrical ephemera offers a sweeping journey through international stage history—richly detailed and visually captivating. It includes a signed magazine print and card dedicated to The Mikado, the classic Japanese play and film, featuring a stylized samurai illustration and program notes from a March 9th performance at the E.M. Club Theater. The production was staged by the Yokosuka Musical Center and the Miho Nagato Opera Co., with director George Wells Lewis and conductor Klaus Pringsheim leading a cast that featured Yoshi Aoyama as the Mikado, along with characters Nanki-Poo, Ko-Ko, Yum-Yum, and others.

From London’s Cambridge Theatre, a rare March 21, 1963 program for Half a Sixpence highlights Tommy Steele as Arthur Kipps, with Julia Sutton and Paul Downing in supporting roles, under the direction of John Dexter and musical direction by Kenneth Alwyn. Scenic and costume designs were created by Loudon Sainthill, with production oversight by Harold Fielding and Emile Litter.

A 1965 cast booklet for the Australian TV variety hit The Andy Stewart Show at Five Past Eight showcases black-and-white portraits and episode details featuring Andy Stewart, Sheila Paton, Ian Powrie, Wendy Wayne, and Max Kay, under the creative leadership of director Freddie Carpenter and managing director Stewart Cruickshank. The program is complemented by vintage advertisements from Edinburgh.

The January 1984 issue of Performing Arts Magazine celebrating Broadway’s Dreamgirls features cast profiles of Lawrence Clayton, Deborah Burrel, and Larry Riley, along with production insights into the work of Michael Bennett, Michael Peters, Steven Cagen, David Geffen, William Ivey Long, and Robin Wagner. It also references the original cast recording featuring Jennifer Holliday, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Obba Babatundé.

Rounding out the collection is a vibrant program for The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd, headlined by Cyril Ritchard and Joel Grey, which premiered on the West Coast from March 15th to 27th, produced by Sammy Leavitt and Danny Dare. Comprehensive credits include book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, standout performances by Mitzi Jeann, and contributions from Lawrence Brown, Buff Shurr, Hal Shafer, and Al Millman. The full cast includes Jack Crowder, Kay Olson, Richard Tiel, and a spirited ensemble portraying The Kid, The Bully, The Negro, and The Urchins.

Altogether, this collection serves as an invaluable archive for enthusiasts of operatic tradition, British musicals, television variety, and Broadway innovation—preserving rare voices and designs from some of the 20th century’s most dynamic theatrical productions.
