Description :
Rare Playbill – 1979 Curran Theatre “The
Last Of Mrs. Cheyney” This extraordinary Playbill from the 1979 production of The Last of
Mrs. Cheyney at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre is a richly detailed
artifact from a revival that blended British sophistication with West Coast
theatrical elegance. Written by celebrated playwright Frederic Lonsdale,
this clever comedy of class and deception was directed by the esteemed Frank
Dunlop, with scenic design by William Brittain and costume design by
Lewis Brown, whose artistry elevated the charm of each scene. The radiant cast was headlined by the legendary Deborah Kerr,
whose portrayal of the elusive Mrs. Cheyney brought both poise and playful wit
to the stage. She was joined by the charismatic Monte Markham as Lord
Dilling, Donal Donnelly as Charles, and Joyce Worsley in a
featured role. The supporting ensemble shined with performances by Marti
Stevens, bringing sophistication to the play’s final act; Bruce Heighley,
Ruth Hunt, and Judith McGilligan, portraying Lady Joan, Lady
Mary, and other distinguished society members. Together, they delivered a
captivating theatrical experience steeped in nuance and comedic finesse. Inside, the Playbill offers cast bios, production notes, and a nostalgic
collection of vintage advertisements from iconic San Francisco locales—North
Beach cafés, cultural venues, and beloved city haunts—capturing the urban pulse
of the late 1970s. Printed in crisp monochrome ink and bound in the traditional
saddle-stitch format, the program features a timeless black-and-white cover
design reflecting the play’s social elegance. Shipping Available: See “Learn
