Description :
Early 20th Century Chinese
Hardwood Slatted Cabinet With Drawers This is an early 20th century
Chinese hardwood cabinet featuring vertically slatted double doors and two
lower pull-out drawers. The piece reflects a utilitarian vernacular design
commonly found in rural southern China during the Republican era, roughly
between the 1910s and 1940s. The vertical slats provided ventilation,
suggesting it was used to store food, ceramics, or everyday household items.
The cabinet has hand-forged circular metal ring pulls and traditional latch
hardware. Interior shelving is fixed and evenly spaced. The craftsmanship
appears to be hand-joined with visible wood peg and slot construction. No
maker's branding or manufacturer markings are present across any of the
components. The design prioritizes function and simplicity; characteristic of
furniture built during a transitional period in Chinese domestic design when
imported influences had not yet overtaken traditional joinery and regional
practicality. Materials made of: hardwood, iron. Measurements: 22"W x 28 3/4"H x 14 1/2"D
