Description :
Curran Theatre Playbill – Odyssey (Yul Brynner & Joan Diener 1975) This rare and authentic Playbill from the San Francisco Civic Light Opera’s 38th Annual Season presentation of Odyssey—a short-lived but star-studded musical staged at the Curran Theatre from August 26 through October 11, 1975—is a remarkable artifact of American theatrical history. Produced by Kennedy Center Productions Inc. and presented by The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, this pre-Broadway engagement featured an extraordinary creative team and cast, making it a prized collectible for musical theatre enthusiasts. The production starred the legendary Yul Brynner as Odysseus and the luminous Joan Diener as Penelope. Featured cast members included Russ Thacker, Martin Vidnovic, Diana Davila, Shev Rodgers, P.J. Mann, Darel Glaser, Greg Bell, Ian Sullivan, Bill Mackey, B.J. Slater, Brian Destazio, John Goren, Derrick Bell, Christine Uchida, Cecile Santos, and Suzanne Sponsler, each contributing to the rich ensemble that brought Homer’s epic to life. The book and lyrics were written by Erich Segal, with music composed by Mitch Leigh, known for his work on Man of La Mancha. Direction was by Albert Marre, choreography by Billy Wilson, and musical direction by Ross Reiwelmer. Scenic and lighting design were crafted by Howard Bay, with costumes designed by Howard Bay and Ray Diffen. Dance arrangements were by Danny Holgate, and orchestrations were provided by Beryl Red. This Playbill documents a suite of original musical numbers including “Three Hundred Days,” “Show Me the Sun,” “Penelope’s Hand,” and “The Contest,” performed by the distinguished cast in a narrative set nine years after the Trojan War. Printed in monochrome with a striking red-tinted cover photograph of Brynner and Diener in full costume, this Playbill is a genuine production-issued piece from the original 1975 San Francisco run—not a reproduction or revival edition. Ideal for collectors of Yul Brynner memorabilia, rare American musicals, and historically significant West Coast theatrical productions, this Playbill stands as a tangible relic of a bold artistic endeavor that briefly lit the stage with mythic ambition and Broadway-caliber talent Shipping Available: See “Learn
